Oh! Uh. [ How to explain his predicament? Damn Athena, she really got in his head with her teasing! That teenage menace... ]
So there's somebody-- one of my students' parents, from back home-- I thought I really didn't like him, because he was handsome, but totally mean, like a Terminator-- the Robert Patrick Terminator, not the Arnold one--
[ JEFF. FOCUS. ]
But it turns out I might've totally misjudged him? Y'know, bad first impressions, judging a tailored book by its fancy cover... Anyway. We kind of had a decent conversation? Then I thought we were flirting, but then he got weird on me, so now I don't know-- He called me 'Mr. Avocado'?
[ None of this makes any sense, does it. He's not good at relaying, uh, these kinds of feelings. ]
I mean... It might be? I don't really know him that well.
Honestly, I barely know him at all! It makes him really hard to get a read on! Is he the jerk I thought he was, or the sweet guy he seems to be, or--
[ SIGH. One of those possibilities, he's totally into. The other? Not so much. It's those little moments of utter dorkiness, and those moments when Waltz showed the depth of his compassion, that Jeff started to think: 'shit, maybe this guy IS my type.' ]
I think he finds me attractive, buuuuut he also called me an idiot in the same breath. So even if there was something there...
[ Waltz probably wouldn't want anything more than a fun roll in the hay. Like Jeff's fucking material, not dating material. ]
[It's definitely not a question there. And oh god, does she get the rest, Jeff. Seriously, she gets it. So she just lets out a soft sigh before she replies.]
Well, calling someone an idiot doesn't mean that he doesn't find you attractive or doesn't want to be involved with you.
[Someone may call her partner an idiot quite often, actually.]
Honestly, Mr. Avocado sounds way more like a pet name than an insult to me.
[ Alex just lets out a little sound of acknowledgement, because honestly Jeff she gets it. Really she does.]
As someone who has been in your shoes, Jeff, I feel for you. Honestly. But you never know what it's going to bring. I'd say overtly hit on him. Sometimes it's the only thing that works with someone who's an ass.
[Yeah, she went there.]
But yeah, definitely sounds like an nickname rather than an insult, because if you two started off hating each other? I'm willing to bet he can come up with something a lot worse than just calling you by that.
[And Alex is just going to laugh, because well, her brain makes leaps of craziness sometimes, and this is one of those situations where it definitely would.]
Of course, that's what friends are for, Jeff. Let me know how it goes, okay?
Re: 4/4; VOICE
I'm pretty sure he had moments where he hated me and I had moments where I wanted to shake the hell out of him but I never hates him.
But I know that hating someone is close to loving them. Sometimes anyway.
Or it could be hatesex I guess.
What's going on, Jeff?

Got weird on you how?

[ WHY. WHY DID HE CALL JEFF THAT? ]
It was all through text, so it's hard to say what his tone was, y'know?

And this is one of the reasons I use voice so much. Way eaiser to hear what's in people's voices.
[Most of the time anyway. Sometimes (some people) it didn't work so well.]
Okay so, was it possible he realized that he realized the two of you were flirting and he was trying to throw you off of your game with it?
[Standard asshole move, honestly.]

[ Pause pause pause. ]
You think so?
[ Stop sounding so hopeful, Calhoun, you sap! ]

Like when he told me I should've become a stripper instead of a teacher.
[ Pause. He mulls over that insult again. ]
Okay, now I feel better about my chances with him.

[Especially when you've got the body like Jeff does, let's be real. Alex's seen it. She's involved, not dead.]
Good. Take a chance, Jeff. What's the worst that could happen?

But I see your point! [ Pause. ] Thanks. For talking me through this.
