Alex just nods, and she touches Simon's hand again before she rises to her feet. "I know. There was probably nothing that we could have ever done really." There's a helplessness in Alex's voice that she doesn't like, and she just looks around for a long moment.

When this is all over," Alex doesn't say 'if' but there's a note of it there anyway, because jesus fuck she's tired and exhausting and hurting with this.
